Sunday Seven - Episode 43

How much do you surf through the web's top destinations? A site called Web100.com has ranked the 100 best websites in a variety of categories. We'll use their rankings for this week's edition of the Sunday Seven.

But first, Carly, of "Ellipsis...Suddenly Carly," was first to play last week! Congratulations Carly!

On to your challenge -- and you might not have seven answers this time around!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
Beginning with the top 10 websites as listed by Web100.com, list the websites from that list that you visit most often. If there aren't seven sites in their top 10 that you feel you visit enough to list, continue on to their next set of 10, and on, until you either fill 7 slots or run out of their rankings.

For example, of their top 10, I only really visit Amazon.com regularly, so I'd list it as my #1, then move on to their 11-20 rankings. Make sense?

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered "first to play," a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.)

My answers:
1. Amazon.com (#6)
2. Internet Movie Database (#29)
3. USA Today (#47)
4. WebMD (#53)
5. Dictionary.com (#79)
6. MSNBC (#85)
7. National Institutes of Health (#98)

Saturday Six - Episode 115

Note: The quiz listed in question #4 featured a link to an old quiz. The link has been corrected, so if you'd like to update your responses, the new quiz is present. Sorry for the confusion.

I saw a preview trailer for the movie "Click" with Adam Sandler. Though the movie itself probably isn't one I'd see, it did inspire one of this week's questions!

But first, Cat of "Sweet Memes" was first to play last week's set of questions. Congratulations, Cat!

Here are this week's "Saturday Six" questions. Either answer the questions in a comment here, or put the answers in an entry on your journal...but either way, leave a link to your journal so that everyone else can visit! To be counted as "first to play," you must be the first player to either answer the questions in a comment or to provide a complete link to the specific entry in your journal in which you answer the questions. A link to your journal in general cannot count. Enjoy!

1. You are given a "remote control" that involves life itself. Of these functions, which would you think you'd make the most use of: fast-forward, rewind, or pause?

2. If you could use a "change channel" button to become a totally different person, would you do so?

3. Do you own a gun? If not, what would it take for you to purchase one?

4. Take the quiz: What piercing are you?

5. Would you ever get a piercing described in your answer to the previous question?

6. Do you tend to visit friends and relatives at their homes more or have them visit you in your home more?

If you have a Reader's Choice question you'd like to see asked (and answered), click the e-mail link in the Blogger profile and send it to me.

MY ANSWERS:

1. I would probably use pause the most, followed by rewind. I think I'd be afraid to make too much use of the fast-forward.

2. Only if I could do so temporarily, just to see some other perspectives. If it was a permanent change, no way.

3. I don't, but I would purchase one if I felt security was a major problem where I lived. (And while I was out buying a gun, I'd be sure to pick up some apartment guides, because as soon as I could arrange it, I'd be moving somewhere else.)

4. Ear

You are boring! the ear piercing is the most common piercing and is not very daring!

(Can't argue much with that assessment!)

5. No piercings for me.

6. I usually visit people at their place more often; I'm a packrat, so there's not a lot of room for social gatherings in my place!

Sunday Seven - Episode 42

On Mother's Day, I asked you to list the seven fictional moms you'd least like to have. Fathers should get equal time!

But first, Jude, of "My Way," was first to play last week, for the second week in a row! Congratulations again, Jude!

On to this week's question!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
Name seven fictional "TV Dads" that you'd least like to have as your own dad.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered "first to play," a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.)

My answers:
1. Al Bundy, "Married...With Children"
2. Tony Soprano, "The Sopranos"
3. The Cigarette-Smoking Man, "The X-Files"
4. Ozzy Osbourne, "The Osbournes"
5. Arthur Spooner, "The King of Queens"
6. Gomez Addams, "The Addams Family"
7. Herman Munster, "The Munsters"

Saturday Six - Episode 114

This edition of the "Saturday Six" returns to the more normal, random questions you've come to know and love.

But first, for the second week in a row, Carly of "Ellipsis...Suddenly Carly was first to play! Congratulations again, Carly!

Enjoy!

1. What vegetable can you not get enough of? What vegetable that you've actually tried cooking do you hate, no matter what is done to it?

2. Have you ever given your father one of those tacky flashing ties as a Father's Day gift? What's the "worst" gift you've ever given your dad?

3. When is the last time you donated clothes to a charity drive? If you had to guess, what percentage of the clothes in your closet right now no longer fit?

4. Take the quiz: Where should you spend your summer vacation?

5. If you could spend one week anywhere in the world or two weeks at home relaxing, which would you choose?

6. Do you tend to be more of a morning person or a night owl? If you could, would you become the opposite?

If you have a Reader's Choice question you'd like to see asked (and answered), click the e-mail link in the Blogger profile and send it to me.

MY ANSWERS:

1. Potatoes. Preferably fried! As for veggies I could do without that I've actually cooked, I can't seem to make cauliflower go well without putting so much seasoning salt on it that it tastes only like the salt.

2. I never gave my dad one of those bad "dad" ties. Normally, my mom was careful to "guide" me towards a gift she knew he'd like, so I don't recall giving him a gift that was only fit for the garbage can.

3. It has been a while since I've donated, and I need to do so again soon. I'd say probably a third of the things in my closet (many of them boxed up) don't fit any more.

4. You Should Spend Your Summer in the Mountains

You're quiet, introspective, and a great thinker.
You need a summer vacation that gets you away from the crowds and the heat.
So retreat to the mountains, where you can clear your head.

5. Sadly enough, I'm a homebody. I'd take the two weeks at home. (Although I'd be tempted to spend a week in Ireland and England.)

6. Definite night owl. I wouldn't change. I hate to get up early in the morning!

Sunday Seven - Episode 41

I've been making some modifications over at my main blog, "Patrick's Place," and one of those changes prompted this week's question.

But first, Jude, of "My Way," was first to answer last week's question about dream homes. Congratulations, Jude!

On to this week's question!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
If you had to categorize the subject matter of all of your posts, and you couldn't have more than seven categories, which ones would you choose?

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered "first to play," a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.)

My answers:
1. Writing
2. Blogging
3. Politics
4. Religion
5. Anxiety
6. Humor
7. Quizzes

Saturday Six - Episode 113

This week's edition of the "Saturday Six" will be a little different. All six questions begin with one act on your part. You'll need to take a step outside your front door and have a quick look around. The answers to the questions will relate to what you see. You can go ahead and read the questions first, just so you'll know what you're looking for, or stay inside and look out from a front window if you prefer.

But first, it was Carly of "Ellipsis...Suddenly Carly" who was first to play! Congratulations, Carly!

Enjoy!

From your front door...
1. What is the color of the first vehicle you spot?

2. Is this the last vehicle you drove? If not, does this car belong to you or someone in your home?

3. What kind of tree is closest to your front door?

4. What's the weather like at the time you answer these questions? Did you feel any dramatic change of temperature or humidity as you stepped outside of your home?

5. Of your immediate neighbors -- those whose homes you can see from your front door -- how many of them do you know by name?

6. How many of those do you speak to when you see them?

If you have a Reader's Choice question you'd like to see asked (and answered), click the e-mail link in the Blogger profile and send it to me.

MY ANSWERS:

1. Dark Blue

2. No. It belongs to a neighbor.

3. Pine

4. Warm but with a slight breeze. It's a little warmer and more humid outside my front door, but the change wasn't that dramatic. I have my thermostat at 76 at the moment, so it's not super-cool in my apartment.

5. I know two of the three by name. One of those two has a girlfriend/wife who I speak to but whose name I do not know.

6. I speak to all of them when I see them, even the ones whose name I don't know. They're the only ones who generally do not speak when spoken to, which might explain why I've never gotten their name.

Sunday Seven - Episode 40

Thanks to everyone for the comments about the 'Weekender's' new look. Wil asked this:
"The new layout is attractive and seems to work well, but I wonder why you chose to continue with the narrow columns that Blogger seems to be rife with?"
It's a very valid question. Blogger templates are rife with narrow columns. I honestly never thought about it until he asked, but Wil is right. I don't know why that is, but the template that I used has them, and until I'm a little more comfortable with HTML...at least, until I'm comfortable enough to try to build my own...I figured I'd stick with what the template offered. I may do some adjustments in the future, if I can figure out how to move things around. But I do wish Blogger was a little more user-friendly when it came to easy template design.

In any case, after my Sunday rant about television game shows at my main blog, I thought I'd stick with television as the subject for this week's question.

But first, Wil, of "The Daily Snooze," was first to answer last week's question about dream homes. Congratulations, Wil!

On to this week's question!

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:
Name seven television show themes -- current or classic -- that tend to stick in your head once you hear them.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered "first to play," a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.)

My answers:
1. "The Price is Right" (Does this surprise anyone?)
2. The 1970s "Match Game"
3. "The Twilight Zone"
4. "Newhart"
5. "The NBC Mystery Movie"
6. "Sanford & Son"
7. "The X-Files"

Saturday Six - Episode 112

"Patrick's Weekender" has a new look, and this edition of the "Saturday Six" is the first post since the new look debuted. I hope you like it.

Last week, Wil of "The Daily Snooze was first to play! Congratulations, Wil!

Enjoy!

1. Have you made any plans for summer vacation? Will rising gas prices have any direct impact on your plans?

2. What quality do you hope most readers will observe in you through your primary blog?

3. What quality do you think you possess that comes through the least effectively through your primary blog?

4. Take the quiz: Who were you in high school?

5. What logo or message is on the last container you drank from?

6. You find out that a co-worker you consider a close friend is stealing supplies from work. You know that if you tell your boss, your friend will likely be fired. If you began to think that your boss suspected that you might be the person stealing the supplies, would you tell on your friend?

If you have a Reader's Choice question you'd like to see asked (and answered), click the e-mail link in the Blogger profile and send it to me.

MY ANSWERS:

1. I have no real plans to go anywhere, and a good part of that is because of gas prices. If I were to go home, it would take more than $100 in gas; flying would be out of the question because of the dogs.

2. Logical thinking

3. Care and concern about others.

4. Arty Kid

Whether you were a drama freak or an emo poet, you definitely were expressive and unique.
You're probably a little less weird these days - but even more talented!

5. A 20-ounce Diet Coke bottle

6. I wouldn't say anything until the boss confronted me. If my boss was ready to fire me, I'd tell. Otherwise, I would maintain my innocence and only volunteer information about my friend if it came down to me going or him going.
